I’m Linda Milks, owner of this site. When I have been asked how long I have appreciated wine, I think it dates back to college days of drinking Chianti in the straw basket with fondue. That was our premium “go to” wine. Luckily, with a lot of exposure to wine all over the world, my palate has developed. And I have to admit that while it has changed, I am continually learning. As the saying goes, “The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.”
Living in a wine region where I am constantly exposed to a wide variety of grapes offers me a chance to grow my knowledge. I am also a member of The Wine Review Council, a group of about eight who sample and pair wines from around the world. Listening to others in this group has broadened my knowledge of wine, too.
Then there’s the food and travel. Being a board member of the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association has provided a great opportunity to travel both to interesting places in this country and also to unique regions of the world. My belief is that travel exposes a person to other cultures and helps us to understand, tolerate and accept. Food is an extension of how people from other regions live their lives.
From travel to Switzerland; Punta Cana; Bordeaux; Italy; Birmingham or Door County, Wisconsin, I have found unique aspects of the area through conversations with the locals. They have shown me there is beauty in the commonplace as well as the exotic.
Whether the story is very local to my wine region or international, I want to share the fun and enjoyable experiences each area offers. Come join me!
