Visualize tropical breezes blowing off the ocean while you sit on your personal patio as you escape to a weekend of luxury. Such an experience awaits you at the Pantai Inn in La Jolla, California. Once you enter the lush tropical grounds, a sense of calm overtakes you. Here you find authentic Balinese sculptures and carvings surround you as you pass the tranquil sound of the water feature.
The Pantai Inn is one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Once you open the door from your private balcony with ocean view to your one-bedroom suite, you know why. Rich, dark wood beams and wood slats overhead lend to the Balinese atmosphere as well as custom Bali furniture and tropical fabric on the sofas and chairs.
Rooms are appointed with fireplaces to add to the atmosphere, some of which are double sided so the fireplace is visible from both the sitting area and the bedroom. Many of the bedrooms have canopied four-poster beds of intricate wood-carved headboards. Of course, no stay in a luxurious suite would be complete without piles of down pillows and high grade sheets. If you open your window, you can hear the cries of the seagulls and the roar of the ocean at La Jolla Cove.
Basket weave tile covers much of the walls in the kitchen area as well as the bathroom. These tiles are bordered by earth-toned Balinese patterned tile. Three shower heads await you in the masterfully laid out curved shower with black pebbles on the floor as well as the shower bench.
Breakfast is included in the stay and served in both the courtyard and separate dining room facing the ocean. This is not your average breakfast that you often find of overcooked bacon and eggs. A baked potato filled with a baked egg as well as freshly prepared scrambled eggs and thick slices of bacon accompanied the array of fresh fruit and blueberry muffins.
Part of a perfect weekend is great entertainment, and you can find it at the La Jolla Playhouse, home to first-class theater. Diana The Musical, just opened at this intimate playhouse. I urge you to not wait to buy tickets as they are rapidly selling out. The music is enthralling and the actors exhibit their talent as singers, dancers, and actors. You will laugh and be choked up with emotion about the life of England’s princess. This is truly a memorable play and will be headed to Broadway.
To tame your appetite after the play, you will find a wide variety of premium restaurants in La Jolla. Spice & Rice Thai Kitchen, located a very short distance from the Pantai Inn, offers some of the best Thai food in this village. We tried a wide variety of dishes and all surpassed our expectations.
Purchase tickets to Diana The Musical, make hotel reservations at Pantai Inn, and pack your bags for a magical weekend.
As is customary in the business, I was comped my hotel room and loved every minute of my stay.
